Turtle responsibilities

Soil Date 15.114

After a day of warm weather my property started to produce the first crop of painted turtles that had been laid last year by their mother in the sandy soil around the lake. I found them on my driveway and in the lawn. The have to cross a gravel road to get to the lake. Even though the overall traffic volume is low, it does not mean it’s not deadly. I escorted the young life’s of an ancient line across the road to the lake. I owe it them.

A turtle in hand is worth two in the ground.
A painted turtle hatchling making the trek from nest to lake.
Two escorted nestlings hanging out on the boardwalk before taking the next steps to a new life in the lake.
